About Us

In the Master Builder tradition, Riverside Design and Build provides a seamless process of designing and constructing custom residences for its clients. The uniqueness of this award-winning firm lies in the comprehensive knowledge and complementary talents of founders Marc Vandenhoeck and Michele Rudolph.

Marc’s extensive knowledge as a contractor is based on thirty years of experience in all facets of the real estate and construction industries. Michele has headed her own architecture practice for twenty years, catering to a select clientele with traditional, contemporary, and eclectic tastes. The firm offers the many benefits of working with one responsible team without the compatibility issues and higher costs of a separate architect and builder. The fusion of Marc and Michele’s backgrounds and talents generates an unusually rewarding experience, one where design is beautifully conceived and impeccably detailed, and where construction is defined by the finest materials at an excellent value. The team prides itself on creating a personable relationship with each client and completing a project on time and on budget.

Riverside Design and Build, with Marc and Michele’s joined creative forces at its center, has successfully resurrected a tradition dedicated to beauty, balance, and craftsmanship – all attributes of the accomplished master builder – while considering the many options for sustainable resources and the increasing demand for energy efficiency. Each finished project inevitably reflects the intense commitment, unwavering integrity, and gracious spirit of the team.

Michele Rudolph, AIA, LEED, AP

Michele Rudolph received her Bachelor of Architecture and Master of Architecture at Tulane University where she was awarded the Goldstein Prize. She has been practicing architecture for thirty years, and has headed her own firm for the past twenty. Her interest in Art History and Studio Art has led her to study over the years at the San Francisco Center for Architecture and Urban Studies, the Arts Student League, and Silvermine Guild Arts Center. A member of the Architectural League, she is registered in NY, CT, and PA.

Michele’s early career was dedicated to redesigning Manhattan’s skyline in the New York offices of luminary architects Helmut Jahn, Eli Attia, and Der Scutt. As a member of a small studio of architects responsible for transforming New York City in the 1980s, she played a significant role in several high-profile buildings: 750 Lexington, 505 Park, Cityspire, Millenium Hilton, and 100 United Nations Plaza. As part of these firms, she worked with prominent real estate clients such as Cohen Brothers, Spitzer, Hines Interests, Eichner, and Albanese. She opened her own firm, Riverside Design, in 1990.

Riverside Design’s impressive list of clients includes two museums, arts education facilities, offices, lofts, apartments, and private residences throughout the United States. Michele’s extensive travels to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Far East have inspired her to approach design with an innovative eye to the flow of space and the nature of light. Michele’s philosophy is one of sustainable design, in which environmentally aware options are considered, such as passive solar, geo-thermal heating and cooling, and recycled materials. She has served on the Pound Ridge Conservation Board. Currently, Michele volunteers as a member of the Planning Board as well as the Sustainability Task Force for the Town of Pound Ridge where her experience has proved to be a valuable contribution to the community. Her love of the fine arts – her close study of technique and color in painting, form and material in sculpture – has marked her work with an unmistakable elegance and harmony. Riverside Design stands as testimony to her passions: the craft of architecture, the exploration of light and shadow, and the joy of collaborating with clients and artisans.
